Flights
Passports for yourself and each family member who is travelling with you must have at least 6 months validity from the day of departure from the UK. If you are unable to board your flight due to passport or visa issues you will be liable for any associated fees and costs.
The London based Admin Team will organise your travel home and book flights according to the ‘best fare of the day’. NOTE: The High Commission has ‘route deals’ with some providers meaning that the High Commission can always find better deals than you would be able to find.
If you wish to alter the travel route given to you by the High Commission – this may be approved by Post but you will be liable for the difference in cost between the amount Post can offer on its Route Deal and the route you are proposing.
You are entitled to two rest periods (one rest period is between 12-24hrs). They may be utilised en-route, at your posting location or not at all. Please inform the London Admin Team at the earliest opportunity of your preference for rest periods.
Leave cannot be taken after your posting period has ended.
The posting period is defined in PACMAN Chapter 12 Part 3 section 12.3.16. The posting period has been confirmed by Overseas Conditions of Service as starting on the day you start duty after any rest periods, and ends the day you leave your settling out accommodation at the posting location.
All leave should be taken prior to your settling out commencing.
Rest Day / Allowances
As flights from the UK to Australia covers more than four time zones and covers travelling time of more than 12 hours, travellers are entitled to a rest period of between 12 and 24 hours. The Destination and duration of the rest period is determined by the London based Admin Team who will do the booking – a negotiation about flight times, rest periods and destinations is possible through the High Commission, but may incur personal costs.
